Trans Workshop: Naarm
Bringing together some of the most exciting trans voices in our industry
Trans Workshop: Naarm is a one-day event in conjunction with the national tour of Travis Alabanza’s Overflow at Arts Centre Melbourne. Led by trans director and producer Dino Dimitriadis, this workshop is designed to foster an exploration of why and how we craft trans and gender diverse works. Artists across artforms are invited to interrogate storytelling from a trans lens, and how community can inform a new way of working.
Dino will discuss ‘trans dramaturgy’, approaches to queering form, and will invite artists to apply these discussions to a current work in progress. Some of the questions we will be tackling include: What are our artistic trans futures? How can our politicised lived experience inform our work? How can we unpick the assumptions of ‘traditional’ normative dramaturgical and storytelling models to work toward trans artistic expression?
We’d like to make the application process super simple.
Submit a brief paragraph or short video outlining the work you’d like to discuss in the workshop (note that any artform is suitable) and why you’d like to be a part of this program.
Email applications to: [email protected] by 19 January 2024.
Applicants will be selected based on their clarity around the idea they are developing and articulation of how they would benefit from the workshop. We aim to gather a diverse array of works, artforms and people in the room, which will influence the selection process.
"Director Dino Dimitriadis has lovingly built the production that Rosie, the funny and formidable woman who leaps off the page and into audience hearts, deserves"
