Pleasure Garden

Avant - Gardening on canvas
In The Pleasure Garden, I explore the convergence of colour, form, and texture. Drawing from the traditions of abstract minimalism, colour field theory and a spirited dose of gestural overload. This work is a celebration of the deep pleasure found in connecting with nature, embracing the joy of vivid colours and rich textures.
I am exploring the interplay between the exotic and the everyday inspired by the rich traditions of horticulture and the allure of Arcadia. This body of work reflects my fascination with the way gardens have been shaped and celebrated throughout history. The Pleasure Garden delves into the intersection of landscape and art making.
The fantastical with the familiar through three-dimensional paint mediums and vivid colour. In this series I experiment with sculptural forms and dynamic surfaces, inviting viewers to step into a space where imagination takes root. Combining unexpected materials and textures which are tactile, and vibrant seeking to evoke the lushness of a garden in full bloom. Each piece plays with contrasts - the seen and unseen, the mundane and the magical. Spreading out beyond the canvas, these works aim to capture the essence of the garden, which is both real and imagined, structured yet untamed.
The Pleasure Garden is an invitation to engage with the world around us - up close and from a distance. The works range from very small to oversize. Whether it's the quiet joy of observing a tiny bloom or the overwhelming awe of a vast, colourful field, I hope to evoke a sense of curiosity, playfulness, and connection to the natural world in all its forms. This journey across scales reflects the idea that pleasure and wonder can be found in both the micro and macro aspects of our world.
