About the Pride Windows Program

The Pride Windows Theatrettes are a unique part of the annual Victoria’s Pride Street Party, delighting attendees with pop-up performances throughout the daytime. This year, Victoria’s Pride will take place on Sunday 11 February 2024.

The Pride Windows program activates selected shop fronts along Gertrude Street and Smith Street in Fitzroy & Collingwood, featuring queer performance artists. The overall program runs between 1pm - 6pm, with each window activated once per hour, for up to 15 minutes. Each Pride Window Theatrette is located within a pre-existing shopfront such as Rose Chong’s Costumier, Crumpler, and Grouse Bar.

Pride Windows is a curated program. This expression of interest is offered only to Midsumma Pathways Artists and Alumni. Please see below for application instructions and event information.

Applications are now open, and will close at 5pm Wednesday 6 December.

Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.

PERFORMANCE TIME: Sunday 11th February 2024, between 1pm - 6pm, with each window activated once per hour, for up to 15 minutes.

REHEARSAL/TECH TIME: Bump in from 9am. Performers need to be prepared to go ahead with minimal rehearsal or tech time. Due to location, rehearsal and tech before the performance day will not be possible.

WHO: Midsumma Pathways Artists and Alumni.

WHAT: 15 minute performances between 1pm - 6pm. Only one performance needs to be prepared - this can be repeated up to 5 times over the course of the day. Less sessions are an option. Your preference can be indicated on the application.

GENRE: The work can be any medium of performance (theatre, dance, poetry, cabaret, circus, drag, mime). Themes must be family friendly.

THE WINDOWS: The Pride Window Theatrettes vary in size and shape; it can be expected that some windows will be small, and performance areas limited. If selected, a window will be allocated that is suitable for your performance type and individual requirements. Details and measurements of the windows will be provided once successful artists have been notified.

WINDOW DRESSING: A basic backdrop will be provided where needed. Specific set dressing for your performance must be provided by you, however assistance for installation can be provided.

This includes an external speaker, a small foldback monitor, a handheld microphone, an audio cable to connect to your own personal device for playback. No lighting will be available and projection is not possible. You will have assistance from a dedicated Stage Manager on the day to assist.

FEE: Selected Artists will be paid a fee of $250.00 per session, with the opportunity to perform a maximum of 5 sessions. Please let us know how many times you can repeat your performance throughout the day.

ACCESS PROVISIONS: We encourage incorporating accessibility into your work if possible. For example, you could have QR codes visible that link to an audio description or text, or you could embed an audio description into the sound track.
