ABOUT MIDSUMMICA

Midsumma and La Mama (based in Naarm) have teamed up to present the second iteration of Midsummica, a multidisciplinary performance night to present works in development by queer disabled artists on Monday 5 February 2024, as part of the 2024 Midsumma Festival. The first Midsummica was a sold-out, resounding success, and we are thrilled to once again be showcasing the incredible breadth of talent from across the Midsumma Pathways Program.

The opportunity is offered only to projects led by Midsumma Pathways Alumni. Interstate applicants are welcomed and encouraged. Please see below for application instructions and event information.

Applications have now closed.

Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.

If you would like to apply and the online form below is not accessible to you, you can apply by emailing [email protected] with any of the following application methods:

- Voice Memo

- Email your answers

- Zoom Meeting with Ebony & Harriet (in English or Auslan)

- 2-minute video pitch

- Auslan Video

Performance time: Monday 5 February 8pm-9:30pm

Rehearsal/tech time: Monday 5 February 10am - 6pm (30 min sessions per artist)

Who: 4-6 Midsumma Pathways Artists and Alumni.

What: Each artist has 10 minutes to perform/present a segment of work. If your piece is longer or shorter than this, please let us know in your application. You can have more than one performer in your piece. For example, if you are a writer, you can organise for performers to read your script. You would be in charge of recruiting and managing your own team to present.

Genre: Your performance can be any genre (theatre, dance, script reading, poetry, cabaret, circus) and it can be at any stage of development. We encourage new work. We also want to support artists to present a section of existing work in a new way.

Space: La Mama Courthouse is a black box theatre space and will not have an existing set in the space for this event.

Technical support: Minimal technical elements (such as simple lighting states, music from laptop/QLab, minimal set/props) are welcome, as long as everything that you do can fit into a 4-6 minute changeover.

Fee: Selected Artists will be paid a $300 stipend, and will be entitled to 100% of the box office from La Mama split between artists.

Travel Costs: Interstate artists are encouraged to apply. If you are selected to perform your piece, Midsumma will cover the costs of travel and accommodation for you to be part of the event in person.

Hybrid Delivery: The night will be delivered as a hybrid in-person and digital event. The event will be livestreamed.

Access Provisions: Midsummica will be Auslan Interpreted and Audio Described.
