Alan is our IT and Applications Guru (who we cannot live without)

The absolute beating heart of the Midsumma core team, Alan has been volunteering his time, almost every day, to Midsumma for 14 years! If you want to know the history of Midsumma, Alan knows it. If you want to find where something is, Alan knows it. If you want to do something and don't know how to do it, Alan knows it!

Apart from being our "go-to" guy, Alan holds rich knowledge of queer theatre, literature, and film - he's always happy to share with you his adventures and recommend what is the best thing to see this month.

Alan also volunteers his time teaching English and spends his (limited) time off riding and participating in the Nomads Outdoors Group, a social outdoors group for gay and gay-friendly men of all ages.

It is with the warmest of introductions, I invite you to get to know Alan Drummond - our IT and Applications Guru.

Q: Describe yourself in three words: pedantic old poof

Q: What were you doing before Midsumma? Contracting as a software developer

Q: What is the best part of your role at Midsumma? The excitement of seeing next year's program emerging

Q: Where is your favourite place in the world? The world! (if I must choose, Barcelona, Paris, Melbourne...)

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years? Alive, hopefully!

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? Don't waste a moment – live for now!

Q: What drew you to working in the arts industry? Attending lots of theatre

Q: What area of your work are you most passionate about? Trying to convey a message as clearly and simply as possible. Not as easy as it sounds!

Q: What do you think sets Midsumma apart from the other places you’ve worked? Acceptance – of everybody

Q: What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend? Sailing (in a warm climate), or bushwalking & camping

Q: What’s your life motto? Do the best you can

Q: What is the future of queer arts and culture? Quite bright, because there's still so much homophobia and injustice to be fought against despite the massive progress that we have made

Q: If you could change or fix one thing about the world, with the click of your fingers, what would it be? Give every country in the world a leader like Barack Obama or Nelson Mandela.

Q: Best festival experience? “MDLSX by Motus” at North Melbourne Town Hall in 2019
